Being open minded about technology in the classroom #1

Before starting this class I was under the impression that this would be a class on Excel, Word, and Power Point. I have come to find that this is much more interesting than that ! Implementing updated technology into everyone's pockets has proved to be a lot easier than bringing that same technology into the classroom. I must admit that I am very skeptical on the type of cohesion that will be formed between students and staff once this type of technology changes interaction in society.

I am 32 years of age, I have seen 80% of the United States and lived in Hawaii for five years.... I guess you can call that cultured....

QUESTION ! What is the value of holding an item in your hand ? By this I ask you to think of what it meant to actually wait to have a pictured developed...What did it mean to wait 2 1/2 hours for your favorite song to come on the top 10 radio list and hit record on your tape recorder; this meant something ! When your computer crashes you can loose everything you have accumulated, versus the digital immigrants old picture and favorite song in hand....

I feel that technology has diluted culture by making information accessible at peoples figure tips. YES people are more aware YES people are more informed.... but how many of you could name 5 families that live on your street ? This could easily be another statistic that our country has experienced since the 1920's ( sorry guess this is my history degree speaking)

Tonight the lesson from Jason told me that the next generation is more informed and aware than ever before. Students that are being matriculated currently will experience even a faster development of technology than the digital immigrant predecessor. A new type of cohesion must be made in order to match a style of teaching & learning to the next generation of "Button Pushers"

And so my journey of open perspective begins
